About the Journal


BRAC, Barcelona Research Art Creation is an electronic journal created in 2013 in the academic context of the University of Barcelona, ​​with national and international participation and framed in Editorial Hipatia. This open access publication (Open Access) has been proposed, since its inception, to work on the relationship established between the Theory and Practice of Contemporary Art,

The Articles section of the journal is a platform for debate between researchers and professionals in the theory and practice of Contemporary Art. The Visual Pages make up a collection of works donated by its authors managed by BRAC with the contribution of the University of Barcelona in its cataloging, maintenance and management.



BRAC publishes works in English, Spanish and Catalan. The magazine consists of two sections, Articles and Visual Pages. The first has articles on completed or ongoing scientific research, and the visual pages are original works of art with a coherent discourse or narrative. BRAC readers are the university community, the active members of the artistic community (artists, curators, art center directors, cultural managers, theorists, historians and art critics) and by extension all those interested in art.



Barcelona Research Art Creation is an electronic journal that is published three times a year, on February 3, June 3 and October 3. promptly since 2013.

From March 2022, the contents of each issue will not be published all at once, but will appear periodically throughout the year (continuous publication or online first), until the scheduled dates, the number will be closed and the items will go to the fixed volume. This system makes it possible to significantly speed up the time of publication of the contents of the magazine, without the need to wait for the whole issue to be edited.


BRAC publishes works in English, Spanish and Catalan. In any case, BRAC always publishes the title, summary and keywords of all articles in Catalan, Spanish and English. Published articles go through a process of correcting the style, format and linguistic revision of English, Catalan or Spanish, as appropriate. The reception of items is permanently open.



All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous double-blind peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by two anonymous referees. (double-blind peer review).

BRAC is committed to meeting high standards of ethical conduct at all stages of the publication process. In our ethical standards and procedures, we set out general expectations for authors, editors, reviewers, publishers and society partners. BRAC guarantees at all times the confidentiality of the evaluation process: the anonymity of the reviewers and the authors, the content evaluated, the rationale report issued by the reviewers and any other communication issued by the editorial and advisory boards. Also, the confidentiality will be maintained before any clarifications or complaints that an author wishes to send to the committees of the journal or to the evaluators of the article.

BRAC pursue the ethical standards present in the COPE (Committe  on Publications Ethics) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the International Standards for editors and authors.

BRAC declares its commitment for the respect and integrity of the works already published. For this reason, plagiarism is strictly prohibited in BRAC and texts that are identified as plagiarism or its content are fraudulent will be removed from the journal if they have already been published or will not be published. Hipatia Press and BRAC editors will act, in these cases, as quickly as possible. By accepting the terms and agreements expressed by BRAC, authors must ensure that the article or review and the materials associated with them are original or do not infringe copyright. The authors also have to justify that, in case of a shared authorship, there was a full consensus of all the authors affected and that the article or book review has not been previously presented or published in other journals.

In the event that BRAC editors are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct, these allegations would be treated accordingly. BRAC editors will be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies whenever needed. . For more information follow this link
